Community education in Goma: using contraception to improve women's and girls' health

As part of its mission to raise awareness of sexual and reproductive health, Diaspora Médicale Plus-RDC (DMP-RDC), in collaboration with UWEMA-ASBL, led a community education session on Sunday 22 April 2018, under the theme:

Contraception for women’s and girls’ health

The activity took place in the commune of Goma, with the active participation of women, young girls and couples supported by UWEMA.

Speakers on the day:

Using a participatory approach, the professionals discussed :

  • The impact of family planning on thehousehold economy and public health;

  • The health benefits for women and adolescents;

  • The presentation of contraceptive methods:

    • 🌱 Natural: calendar method, periodic abstinence.

    • 💊 Modern: implants, pills, IUDs, injections, condoms

💬 A rich and liberating debate

The participants expressed their concerns without taboos and shattered several myths linked to contraception.

Titulaire d’un diplôme en Management et Politique du Système de Santé de l’École de Santé Publique de l’Université de Goma, j’ai contribué de manière significative au renforcement des systèmes de santé dans mon Pays, la République Démocratique du Congo, en Afrique centrale, en associant rigueur académique, leadership opérationnel et sens de l’engagement communautaire.
